How to choose a portable air conditioner for tents and small spaces

Five questions decide which unit fits: how big the space is, what powers it, whether you need heat, how condensate is handled, and how much noise and weight you can accept. This guide answers them with the published figures for the four SpaceCool models.

01Start with the size of the space

Cooling capacity, given in BTU, is the number that matters most. Our recommended space for each model:

• COG-2 / COG-2+ is a mosquito net air conditioner, built for beds, desks, small tents and pet spaces. In a room larger than 8 m³, use it with an air-conditioning mosquito net or a tent so the cold air stays where you sleep.
• POG-1, POG-2 and Space Cool-C18 cover 8–10 m². The Space Cool-C18 has the highest cooling capacity of the four, measured at 6000BTU / 1800W, and is meant for large outdoor tents and small temporary offices in extreme heat.
• If your space is at the top of a range, sits in direct sun or has thin walls, choose the model with more cooling capacity.

02Match the power source

• AC 220V / 110V: Space Cool-C18, POG-1 and COG-2 / COG-2+ plug into mains or a generator.
• POG-2 runs on DC 48V and ships with an adapter for 110–240V AC, which makes it the natural choice next to a battery system.
• COG-2 / COG-2+ needs an inverter to run from 12V, 24V or 48V DC.

Off grid, use the rated power to size the battery. A rough upper bound is battery capacity (Wh) ÷ rated power (W): a 1,000Wh battery and the 450W POG-2 give about 2 hours at full rated draw. Real runtime depends on how often the compressor cycles, the outside temperature and inverter losses, so treat it as a starting point. 03Decide whether you need heat

• POG-1: optional heating module, 3000BTU heating capacity.
• COG-2+: cooling and heating, 2000BTU heating capacity. The COG-2 is cooling only.
• Space Cool-C18 and POG-2: heating and cooling dual modes are available as an option.

04Check how condensate is handled

Every air conditioner pulls water out of the air. Outdoors, emptying a tank or routing a hose is a chore, so check this before you buy.

• POG-1, POG-2 and Space Cool-C18 are drainage-free: no drain hose is needed.
• Space Cool-C18 (2026 series) uses a pump to re-use the condensate and has a 1300ml base tray, so it can run through the night without emptying. When the tray is full it sounds an alarm and stops. The fan motor and control box are protected against rain and condensate, with double waterproof plugs and an overflow outlet.
• COG-2 / COG-2+ ships with a drain hose and an exhaust hose.

05Noise, weight and refrigerant

• POG-1, POG-2 and COG-2 / COG-2+ have a carry handle; the COG-2 is the lightest at 11kg.
• POG-1, POG-2 and COG-2 / COG-2+ use R290 refrigerant.
• The 2026 Space Cool series, including the Space Cool-C18, complies with RoHS and uses no foam that ages or gives off harmful substances.
• COG-2 / COG-2+ can be ordered with phone and WiFi control through the Uhome Life app. Every model can be run from the panel or the remote control.

06Buying for your own brand

For distributors and brands, HAFYOUNG builds these units as OEM / ODM. The appearance, control panel, plug, remote control and outer carton can be customized, and the compressor is developed in-house.
